Who is Antisocial? Me or the Media?

Let us endeavour to understand the meaning of Antisocial:

The dictionary states:

1. Averse to the society of others.
2. Hostile or harmful to organized society; especially :being or marked by behavior deviating sharply from the social norm

A post from the Facebook puts it across very succinctly:

Yes of course, the smiling  icon from the facebook did unmask the meaning much more distinctly than the phrases from the dictionary. I digested the meaning of Antisocial clearly and equivocally thanks to the Social Media!

From the same Social Media through the message carried by the bird I understood the antonym too, lucidly and comprehensively.

Why then the dichotomy? Why this frenzy, delirium, feverishness and uproar over the function and the role of the Social Media in our daily lives?

As was in the past it was we who wrote and we who read, nothing has changed since then. The written  masterpieces were applauded while the gibberish were either criticized or canned and mainly ignored. What has changed that has polarised a moderately large section of the society consisting of not only the lumpen elements but also the mediocre and the intellectuals to create mayhem and disorder through the media now, which are cause for concern and uneasiness to us?

Are we facing a recurrent pattern of misbehavior that involves all significant facets of life and is marked by violation of social norms and regulations that occur over time, ranging from repeated lies and petty incitements to violence?

Or we have a greater numbers of  antisocials from very dysfunctional families, more likely to have antisocial friends, who encourage, validate and reinforce bad behavior?.  Antisocials know full well what is going on around them. They know the difference between right and wrong but they simply remain unconcerned with it. Their actions are deliberate and focused on their self-centered goals.

Despite these very serious fears, none of us can criticize technology or social media outright. We have the option to log off and unplug anytime we want, so it’s up to us to decide if we want to engage with the actual world or the virtual one. With Internet access spreading throughout the globe, it has never been easier to work, research, communicate, and connect with people everywhere right from our fingertips. So it’s not the technology that’s the problem; it’s us for abusing it. We’ve become antisocial by relying on technology too heavily. That to me is the sole truth and am working on it.
