Thorns & Roses

We served the nation in peace and war, both in times of conflict and in periods of peace our contributions have often been overshadowed or forgotten or just conveniently remembered. It is mostly we, who remember the sacrifices made, the courage displayed and the unwavering commitment to the ideals of freedom and justice.

Yet, as time passes, it seems that the collective memory of society fades away, leaving behind only echoes of valour. Serving the nation is not solely about taking up arms in battle; it encompasses a broader spectrum of dedication, including humanitarian efforts, community service, and the promotion of peace. Those who have donned uniforms in war have also stood as guardians during peacetime, working tirelessly to rebuild communities, support veterans, and foster understanding among diverse populations.

The lessons learned from past conflicts, the lives lost, and the triumphs achieved can become distant memories, often relegated to the pages of history books or the confines of veterans’ gatherings.

We must ensure that the narratives of those who served are passed down through generations. This can be achieved through education, storytelling and community engagement, allowing the sacrifices made in both peace and war to resonate with future citizens.

‘Thorns and Roses’ is one such step in that direction.
